The Wildland Research Institute played a key role in WILD10, the 10th World Wilderness Congress (WWC), which was held in Salamanca, Spain, between 4-10 October. Entitled “Make the World a Wilder Place”, WRi gave two plenary talks, launched a new, draft Vision for a wilder Europe, wrote/contributed to 5 congress resolutions, moderated 6 sessions, delivered upwards of 10 papers… we loose count! Seven University of Leeds students attended WILD10, volunteering and helping run the congress, while 20 other students followed the programme online, blogging as they went. The Leeds student also helped to run a participatory science survey “The WILD Wall” aimed at elucidating the top wilderness science questions. Steve Carver (Director, WRi) was co-chair of the Science and Stewardship Symposium, together with Alan Watson and Zdenka Krenova; see here for more details.
